At the start of its June 12 meeting the Middletown Board recognized local students and community groups.
Jim Merrill, president of the Middletown Community Foundation, introduced the foundation and presented eight scholarships to local Neshaminy High School graduates. Merrill said the foundation received nearly 30 applications and awarded its largest number of scholarships to date; winners named by the foundation included Grace Irving, Maggie Murphy, Kate Weiner, Hannah Yeager, John Spina (not present), Susie Getz, Giovanna Martin and others. Merrill invited recipients and supervisors for a photo and noted the foundation’s mission to support local students.
The board also read a proclamation recognizing June as Pride Month and directing the township to fly the pride flag at the municipal center during the month to express support for inclusion and safety for LGBTQ2S+ residents. (The proclamation language in the record uses the term ‘Bridal Month’ in multiple places; the text repeatedly references June as a time to celebrate diversity and promote equal rights.)
Board members and staff also recognized Louise Morris for 36 years of service as a school crossing guard and presented a retirement plaque.
The acknowledgements occupied the early portion of the meeting and drew thanks from supervisors and attendees.
