Wilson County EMA committee members discussed a recent roughly $140,000 increase in ambulance costs, plans for two remounts this year and the prospect of buying new apparatus before a federal vehicle emissions or powertrain mandate they said will be in force by 2027.
"We got a hundred 40,000 additional this last go around," Randy said when summarizing the county's recent ambulance-cost increase and describing procurement options. He said remount and new-unit prices have risen; in the meeting he estimated a remount could cost about $30,000 more and a new apparatus about $40,000 more than prior projections. Based on those figures, Randy said he expects to perform two remounts this year and to plan for one new vehicle purchase the following year.
A committee member (Unidentified Speaker 3) urged the county to complete purchases before a federal emissions and vehicle mandate that the speaker said will take effect by 2027. "By 2027, we're gonna do all our purchases," the speaker said, urging the committee to consider purchase timing now so units are compliant with future requirements. Committee members questioned whether ordering schedules and model-year designations would ensure compliance; staff cautioned that ordering in one calendar year can still produce later model-year vehicles and that production schedules and plant retooling could affect the final powertrain delivered.
Unidentified Speaker 3 also provided an update on a ladder truck: the apparatus requires tool mounting and radio installation in Nashville and the company handling return logistics expects the unit back by the end of next week. The committee did not take formal procurement action at the meeting but flagged fleet replacement timing and rising costs for follow-up in future budget planning.
