The Rising Sun Board of Commissioners opened and closed its December meeting with routine business and several staff updates.
A motion to cancel the December meeting was offered, seconded and approved by voice vote. The meeting packet included no further action on that agenda date.
Town staff reports and commissioner comments included:
- Veterans Park: Commissioner Warnec thanked public works for repaving the Veterans Park parking lot, replacing asphalt millings along the park edge with pavement to reduce tracking, and working on sidewalk and drainage improvements. He said additional crosswalks are planned to improve access for Little League and park users.
- Police recruitment: The police chief said the department is hiring officers, highlighted a competitive benefits package and take-home vehicles, and encouraged applicants to submit applications.
- Financials: The board’s finance report said about 60% of real-estate taxes and about 53% of debt service had been collected through November and that the general fund showed a positive balance of $233,000. Accounts receivable were reported roughly 92% within normal billing windows and electronic payments at about 52 percent.
No ordinances or new contracts were voted on at the meeting. The board adjourned after the business reports.
