Rising Sun schedules March 22 public hearing after planning commission recommends zoning changes

The Town of Rising Sun will hold a public hearing on proposed zoning changes on March 22, 2022, after the town’s planning commission recommended approval of two ordinances and the Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted to advertise the hearing.

Town Administrator Thomas Shrager told the board that the Planning Commission met on Feb. 14 and provided letters documenting its recommendations. Shrager read the findings: "the planning commission met on Monday, 02/14/2022 to discuss and consider Ordinance 2022-01 titled Amending and Creating Zoning Districts ... the 5 members ... voted to recommend approval of this ordinance with a vote of 5 yays and 0 nays," and for Ordinance 2022-02 he reported a recommendation with "a vote of 4 yays, 0 nays, and 1 abstention." Shrager identified Planning Commission Chair Michael Viszak as the author of the letters.

A commissioner moved to instruct the town administrator to prepare the required advertisements and schedule a public hearing on the zoning changes for March 22; the motion was seconded and approved, recorded as "Passes 3 0." Shrager said he would prepare the advertisements and proposed the hearing be held at the March 22 town meeting.

The public hearing will provide a formal opportunity for residents to comment on the proposed changes to zoning districts and the comprehensive rezoning phase. No public comments were recorded during this meeting; staff and commissioners gave no further substantive reports on the ordinances at the Feb. 22 session.
