Mount Street water design complete; fiber alignment, storm-mitigation grants next

The town engineer told commissioners that design work for the Mount Street water project is complete and the remaining critical path task is finalizing the fiber alignment to finish design and permitting. Once fiber alignment is locked in, the engineer said construction could begin promptly.

Why it matters: The Mount Street project is tied to utility upgrades in the town; completing design and permitting will allow the town to move into construction and address local road and infrastructure conditions that residents have cited.

The engineer also said staff are assisting with grant applications: an April 30 funding deadline was noted as imminent and two storm-mitigation grant applications are due in early May. He said his office has completed much of the work and only needs a few pieces of information from the town to finalize the submissions. The engineer added he is coordinating an as-built drawing for the dog park with a consultant.

Next steps: The engineer will schedule a workshop with the administrator to update the town’s CIP and include funding-source data elements. Staff will provide project narratives needed for funding deadlines. If fiber alignment is finalized, the town indicated it could start construction on Mount Street quickly.
