The police chief updated the board on several department items. He said Trooper Gurnat, who assisted in an October incident involving a person with mental-health issues, received a governor’s citation presented on March 30. The chief congratulated the trooper and noted the trooper appears to be assigned locally in Cecil County.
The chief said a vehicle ordered in 2021 is still expected to arrive in May and warned the board that vehicle ordering windows are limited; if the town needs to order additional vehicles it should be prepared to act quickly.
On recruitment, the chief said two applicants were advanced through initial screening. One candidate passed a polygraph, clearing a key early step; the second candidate remains in process and will take a psychological exam if he passes polygraph screening. The chief said he will report back when the recruitment steps are complete.
Next steps: The chief will provide updates on vehicle delivery scheduling and candidate progress as they become available.
