Rising Sun commissioners approve $60,000 addition to tax-exempt lease for Public Works vehicle

Rising Sun commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2022-10 on May 24, authorizing the town to add up to $60,000 to an existing tax-exempt leasing arrangement to acquire a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive pickup truck and ancillary equipment for the Public Works Department.

Town Administrator Calvin A. Vaudenberger Jr. told the board the town previously authorized tax-exempt leasing to fund three items — a replacement police vehicle, reimbursement for a dog trailer purchase and a new code-officer vehicle — and that the amendment adds a Public Works vehicle to capture favorable state-contract pricing available through June 9. Vaudenberger said taking advantage of that pricing now will avoid an expected 12–15% markup the town would face if it had to procure the vehicle later.

The resolution, as read into the record by Vaudenberger, set a not-to-exceed cost of $60,000 for the vehicle and ancillary equipment and designated the town administrator to execute contract and escrow documents on the town’s behalf. Commissioner Pearson moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The presiding officer announced the motion carried.
