After water-main break, Rising Sun plans targeted overlay and valve repairs rather than full rebuild

Town Administrator Calvin briefed the board on March 14 about a recent water-main break on Maple Heights near Broadleaf Court that initially raised estimates of $30,000–$60,000 to rebuild roadway sections where substrate washout was suspected.

Public works crews probed the road and found the substrate to be intact in areas tested, which reduced the scope of required repairs. Calvin said the town will schedule a simpler asphalt overlay to remove depressions instead of a full rebuild, lowering cost and construction time. "By poking around, we will create a lot less heartache in terms of restoring that road," he said.

Calvin also reported the town found corroded steel bolts on valve housings in the affected development that had caused past failures; the crew plans to replace valve fittings and bolts preemptively to reduce the risk of future breaks and road erosion.

The administrator asked public works to schedule the overlay and to address older valve hardware while on site. No formal vote was required; the board received the report and thanked staff.
