The mayor of Rising Sun gave several community updates at the August meeting, including repairs and a reuse plan for a town church affected by flooding, a recent meeting with Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, and plans for a Little League champions parade on Aug. 26.
On the church, the mayor said the roof has been repaired to stop leaks and mold has been removed; the town signed a contract to demo ceilings so staff and the designer can fully assess the interior and plan a repurposed community-building layout. The mayor said staff will work with a planner and designer and that the board will share updates as design work progresses.
The mayor noted a recent trip with Chief Peterson to an event hosted by Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller where the town hosted students who had participated in a mental-health roundtable earlier in the year. "It was great to be able to have a day with them and to thank them for sharing their stories," the mayor said.
The board announced a Little League champions parade scheduled for Aug. 26; the mayor said the board planned a small surprise for the teams and that presentations and citations will follow at the Little League complex.
No formal votes were required for these updates; they were presented as informational items in the mayor’s report.
