Town public-safety and administrative staff used the August meeting to remind residents about safety and community events as the school year approaches.
Chief Peterson (identified later in the meeting) told the board the fire-company Touch-a-Truck event is scheduled for Saturday the 12th and encouraged families to attend. He also urged drivers to be attentive to crosswalks and pedestrian traffic when school resumes, noting an estimate that roughly 10% of middle-school students walk to school.
The assistant town administrator reported that the fiscal-year audit for FY 2022–23 will be conducted the week of Sept. 18–22 with a target completion by Oct. 1, and asked for sponsors, vendors and volunteers for the town’s Spooktacular event in October.
Commissioner Pearson emphasized that Rising Sun funds its own police department and that the town provides nearby police protection under mutual agreements with the county sheriff’s office and the Maryland State Police; he said town staff are collecting information on speeding on Main Street and Pearl Street near the middle school and urged drivers to slow down.
These items were presented as informational updates; the board did not take new formal actions other than routine event planning and scheduling.
