Rising Sun police detail toddler rescue, traffic survey and school safety reminders

At the September meeting the police chief told commissioners the department handled about 70 calls for service with no new trends and presented results of a RedSpeed survey that identified candidate locations for automated speed enforcement near the middle school.

The chief also described a recent emergency response in which two town officers assisted outside agencies after a call about a missing 2-year-old. "Because of their training, they, jumped right in, was able to get reestablish a, pulse. And, the last we know, the 2 year old was taken to a medical facility alive," the chief said, and he said the department would follow up to confirm the child's status.

The chief urged drivers to exercise caution during school-morning hours, noting foggy mornings and children walking to and from school. The police department asked the commission and residents to review the speed-camera survey and consider next steps for traffic safety near school zones.

The chief said he will provide further details when family or EMS updates are available and encouraged public attention to crosswalk safety.
