The City of Crockett voted to approve two resolutions to pursue funding from the Texas Water Development Board for drinking-water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
City staff presented follow-up resolutions to submit applications for (1) the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and (2) the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. Officials said both applications are intended to support upgrades at the city’s drinking-water and wastewater-treatment systems; the wastewater application was described as a candidate for loan forgiveness that could cover roughly 70% of a $12 million project (presented by staff as about $8,000,000 in potential loan forgiveness) if the city qualified for maximum grant/forgiveness amounts.
During the item on drinking-water funding, a council member moved to submit the application and another council member seconded; the board recorded the motion as carried. The council then considered the wastewater-resolution motion, which also passed on a motion-and-second.
City staff told the council the wastewater project is necessary to comply with obligations under the state environmental regulator (staff referenced TCEQ requirements) and to bring the system into compliance. No final loan awards were announced; staff said the projects remained on the TWDB project list and that award amounts would be determined by TWDB processes.
Council members approved the resolutions by voice vote and recorded motions; staff will proceed with the TWDB application process.
