At its regular meeting the City of Crockett Council approved a slate of routine items, including temporary road closures for community events, a circus permit, reappointments to a planning board and payment of economic development invoices.
Council approved a resolution and agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to temporarily close state right-of-way for the 'Christmas in Crockett' event after organizers described vendor logistics and safety considerations; organizers said they are moving food trucks off the square to create a designated food park and noted about 230 vendors have signed up.
The council also approved a tented circus permit for Culpepper and Merriweather for two October shows on a field next to the Civic Center; the presenter said there will be no elephants, a petting zoo and small rides, and the circus plans to give away free tickets.
Separately, the Downtown Crockett Association's request to close part of the square for a downtown Christmas lighting event (east side between the barbershop and the courthouse) was approved; staff described the closure as limited to allow traffic to continue around blocked sections.
The council reappointed Ray Brunner, Connie Scribe and Wade Thomas to the Planning and Zoning Commission when their terms expired in September, and it approved payment of invoices from the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation; motions were moved, seconded and recorded as carried with 'all in favor.'
Council members did not record detailed roll-call tallies for these items during the meeting minutes captured in the transcript.
