City public-safety staff presented monthly summaries for August as part of the council meeting.
A police department representative told the council that 16 officers worked a combined 2,996 hours in August, responded to 517 calls for service, handled 15 traffic accidents, made 51 arrests, issued 358 traffic citations and completed 99 reports; the presenter offered a breakdown for further questions.
A fire department representative reporting in the chief's absence said August was 'very active' with 79 total calls, 54 inside city limits and 25 in the county. The city recorded three structure fires within city limits and provided mutual aid 11 times; volunteer staff contributed 435 hours.
Council members thanked public-safety personnel for their work during a dry, demanding month. No votes or formal directions to change staffing levels were recorded during the meeting; council members noted ongoing manpower pressures in the fire department and commended efforts with existing staff.
