Council approves specific-use permit for metalworks business at 202 E. Goliad

The Crockett City Council voted to approve a specific-use permit allowing FG Metal Works to operate in a C-3 horizontal mixed commercial-residential building at 202 East Goliad.

The permit was approved with conditions tying the authorization to the current business and its operations; the council said the permit would not run with the land and a change in property ownership or the nature of operations would require a new application. "I make a motion that we recommend we approve this specific use permit with the conditions that the permit is only effective as long as there's no change in property ownership and the nature of operations," said Speaker 5, who moved the motion. Speaker 1 seconded and the motion carried.

During the public hearing, an applicant identified in the record as Robin Hall described moving the business to Crockett from South Houston and said the location ‘‘gives so much life to that area again.’’ Planning and Zoning recommended approval on a 5–0 vote but asked that the permit be limited to the current business rather than attached to the property.

The council’s action formalizes the conditional permit.
