Crockett council authorizes application for CDBG sewer project near Stokes area

The Crockett City Council voted to authorize city representatives to apply for a Texas Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to address a constrained sewer main under the railroad near the Peas and Stokes area.

Staff described the project as relocating and upsizing a 12-inch interceptor to a 24-inch main, bypassing two creek crossings and removing a pinch point that has contributed to sanitary-sewer overflow risk. The upgrade is intended to improve flow capacity and reduce the risk of line breaks into the nearby creek.

City staff said the project was identified as necessary under the city’s sanitary sewer overflow plan and that a public hearing had been held. The mayor and the city administrator were authorized to sign application documents; a motion to approve the authorization was moved and seconded and the council approved it.

Why it matters: Replacing the constrained sewer interceptor is a capital project meant to reduce overflow risk to waterways and improve system reliability for residents near the railroad and Stokes area.

What’s next: Staff will prepare the formal CDBG application and signatory documents; the project will return to council for any contract approvals if the grant is awarded.
