Crockett council increases ceiling on forensic audit for economic development project

City staff presented a forensic-audit update for an economic development project and shared a proposal from outside auditors who said their work required extra resources because earlier records are scanned images or non-digital and must be reviewed and entered manually.

Staff said the auditors’ original proposal ranged — the transcript references figures including '75,000 to 100,000' — and the auditors requested raising the contract ceiling to allow for the fuller scope. Council members discussed the split with economic development and whether additional expense would be recoverable; one council member noted the city is the only party on the contract and prior decisions had planned shared costs.

After discussion, Council Member S11 moved to increase the audit ceiling (the mover stated the ceiling as '$1.25' during the motion). The motion was seconded and the chair declared the motion carried. Staff said the increase would be split in the budget as previously discussed and that auditors are aiming to submit a report before Christmas.
