The Crockett City Council approved the fiscal year 2023 budget planning calendar and directed department heads to prepare capital requests for presentation to council.
Staff said the calendar includes four council meetings related to budget development and asked departments to prepare long-range planning and capital requests. Staff requested that capital requests be presented at the next meeting on May 16 to give the council a month or more to review ahead of July workshops. The staff presentation emphasized maintaining current operational levels while completing in-progress projects, particularly street, water and sewer upgrades.
Councilmembers discussed a scheduling conflict in July and considered consolidating meetings; a motion to accept the budget calendar with the exception of adjusting the July meeting date was made, seconded and carried. Staff said the final capital request presentation would occur at the May 16 meeting and that council could adjust the project list or dates as needed during budget workshops.
The council did not adopt a final budget or tax rate at the meeting; the calendar establishes steps and dates for upcoming budget work sessions and presentations.
