Library director outlines donors, $10,000 toward bookmobile drive

Judy Scott, director of the Crockett Public Library, delivered her first official library report to the council and described donor support and outreach plans, including fundraising toward a bookmobile.

Scott identified several donors and gift sources that supported programs and technology: the Emma Catherine Walters Endowment Fund (technology stipends and Dial‑a‑Story), the Major Gerald Beasley chapter of the DAR and Golden Acres Lot Owners Association (summer reading support), Jean Wooters (annual donation), and the Catherine Salas Foundation (a sizable donation toward a bookmobile). Scott said the combined donations she discussed totaled roughly $20,500 year‑to‑date and that the bookmobile fund stood at about $10,000.

She described Dial‑a‑Story, a telephone‑based story line for families with limited internet access, and plans for children’s ukulele classes. Council members thanked Scott for outreach and noted many patrons use the library’s parking lot for internet access while doing homework.

The council commended the director and encouraged the bookmobile project to continue; no formal action or funding allocation occurred during the meeting.

Next steps: staff and the library advisory board will continue searching for a van or bus to convert and pursue additional fundraising to reach the bookmobile goal.
