Middletown presents proposed 2022 budget with no tax increase, board votes to advertise

Middletown Township staff presented the proposed 2022 budget to the Board of Supervisors and the board voted to advertise the draft for public inspection and a scheduled adoption vote later this year.

Finance staff said the proposal includes no tax increase, estimated operating expenses just over $39 million and capital projects totaling about $8.3 million. Staff reported the township’s investment fund and general‑fund balances remain strong following COVID‑era reimbursements and federal recovery fund receipts, and cited continued emphasis on grant‑seeking and long‑term capital planning. The finance presentation included highlights such as an expected $2.3 million in Recovery Act receipts this year and $2.3 million next year, a projected AAA credit rating and a transfer from the investment fund to support volunteer firefighter incentives and capital needs.

"We're proposing a budget tonight that has no proposed tax increase," said finance staff. The board voted to advertise the proposed budget twice for public comment and scheduled a formal adoption vote before the end of the year.

What’s next: The proposed budget materials will be posted on the township website for review; the board will consider formal adoption at a subsequent meeting and members encouraged residents to review the posted figures.
