Clearlake — The City Council on Sept. 7 approved a staff recommendation to award a contract for a roadway preservation project covering multiple areas of the city.
Staff presented three bids and recommended awarding the project to the low bidder. The report showed competing bids (one readout listed Northwest Paving at approximately $626,425 and another bidder, VSS International, around $781,000); staff’s recommended contract amount was presented to the council at $626,489. Staff displayed a map of project areas and said the work covers about five miles of double-chip-seal projects. Council and staff discussed unit and per-mile costs; staff characterized recent double-chip-seal work at roughly $100,000 per mile, noting some material-unit costs have risen.
Council opened the item for public questions; none on Zoom registered. After public discussion and questions from council about mileage and cost, a motion to approve the contract passed unanimously.
What’s next: Staff will finalize contract documents and return with any required contract approvals and construction schedules.
