Clearlake council accepts county-funded skate park design, approves $43,500 contract

Clearlake — The City Council agreed to move forward with a redesigned concrete skate park at the site of the existing facility and approved a $43,500 contract with American Ramp Company for design services.

Supervisor Sabatier told the council he has $300,000 available in his discretionary county cannabis tax account and will add another $100,000 in July, and that his intent is to cover the design costs. “I have 300,000 in my account. In July, I will have another hundred thousand dollars,” Sabatier said. He described a concrete park in nearby Kelseyville that has required virtually no maintenance since it opened and said a new facility could have a regional draw.

City staff said the design contract includes an initial community workshop to collect input from the skating community before the design is finalized and publicly presented. Staff also said an MOU between the county and city is being finalized and will be taken to the Board of Supervisors (planned Jan. 24) before construction funding or work proceeds.

Councilmember Kramer moved to approve the contract with American Ramp Company for $43,500; Vice Mayor Claffey seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Councilmembers present voted in favor: Council member Slotin; Council member Overton; Council member Kramer; Vice Mayor Claffey; Mayor Perdock.

City staff and the supervisor said they will continue to pursue grant funding to cover construction costs and that the design phase will help refine the total budget and phasing.

The council also asked staff to preserve the existing park name so the community legacy tied to the current site remains intact during planning.
