The council gave first reading to an ordinance that amends chapter 10, section 10-3.5 of the Clear Lake Municipal Code to simplify the appeals process for abatement orders.
The city attorney said the amendments remove confusing or redundant language while preserving appellants’ due-process rights and recommended adoption of the first reading. During public comment, a speaker urged the council to consider adding a deadline so that large appeal packets are posted with the agenda to give the public and council sufficient time to review materials; staff noted applicants also face filing deadlines and suggested that the council could consider continuances when voluminous materials arrive late.
Councilmember Kramer moved to introduce and read the ordinance by title; the motion passed unanimously and the second reading and adoption were set for Aug. 4, 2022.
