Committee members raised operational concerns for an approaching fishing tournament that will draw college and high-school teams from across Northern California.
A committee member (Speaker 4) said the tournament will include college teams and a high-school day expected to bring many parents and youth and asked whether the city could supply portable, ADA-approved bleachers. She said new portable bleachers cost about $4,500 each and asked if rental options or city budget support exist. Chair Claffey and others said the marketing committee does not currently have a budget and that securing funds or sponsorships would require additional follow-up.
Members also reported limited local lodging: one small campground and a handful of hotels and cottages were available, and some Airbnbs may be operating without providing transient occupancy tax information. Committee members said the shortage of overnight accommodations could limit the city’s ability to host large events and discussed long-term needs such as more hotel rooms or alternative campsite capacity.
The committee assigned an action item for members to coordinate with event organizers, check rental availability for bleachers and water truck logistics, and report back at the next meeting.
