The Cape Girardeau City Council on March 3 approved a consent agenda that included demolition contracts and set a public hearing on a voluntary annexation petition for April 7, 2025.
During the meeting staff summarized consent items that included a resolution to authorize a demolition contract with Twin Cedars Tree LLC for the demolition of a building at 1226 Rainey Avenue and a contract with Steve's Hauling and Excavating LLC for the demolition of multiple condemned properties. The council approved the consent agenda by voice vote; an unidentified council member announced an abstention on Bill 2,522 (a waterline easement at 1112 Linden Street) citing a financial conflict of interest.
Separately, on first reading the council approved Bill 2,527, a record plat for Webster Springs Subdivision that reconfigures tracts into two lots (one with a commercial building fronting Sprigg Street and one with an apartment building fronting Themis). The council also approved Bill 2,528, a record plat for Young House Meadowbrook Subdivision that replats two commercial buildings on Meadowbrook Lane so a parcel can be sold independently.
Mr. Foley and Mr. Young (staff) read the consent items and bill titles for the record; Ryan Shrimplin described the two plats before the council voted.
Next steps: the annexation petition for property at 126 Dogwood Street is scheduled for a public hearing on April 7, 2025. Other items approved on the consent agenda will proceed per existing staff authority and contract terms.
