Auctioneer Commission Reports Small Deficit, Healthy Reserves and Slight Licensing Dip

The Tennessee Auctioneer Commission reviewed its director's budget at its Nov. 18 meeting, with Executive Director Roxanna Gamusio reporting a modest year‑end program deficit and stable reserves.

Gamusio said the program ended the fiscal year with a deficit of $1,943 and a reserve balance of $517,566. She noted the commission's education fund stands at $177,006, above the statutory threshold she cited of $150,000. "This is the first year that we're at a deficit," Gamusio said, and she told commissioners staff will watch course approvals more closely to avoid reducing the education fund toward the statutory minimum.

Gamusio reported licensing numbers were down overall by about 3 percent: bid caller numbers declined slightly, affiliates were down modestly, and principals increased slightly. She said staff will continue to report licensing numbers periodically to track trends.

Commissioners did not propose fee increases at the meeting and were told the current deficit level did not, at this time, require fee adjustments. The director presented projected numbers through September and reported an additional deficit of $832 for the fiscal‑year‑to‑date figures included in the packet.
