Lake Norman Charter board approves 2025–26 school calendar

The Lake Norman Charter board approved the district's draft 2025–26 school calendar following a brief presentation and voice vote.

Board members were presented with a calendar that moves the start of school to Thursday, Aug. 14, preserves a two-week winter break, aligns spring break with Easter and keeps the last day of school in May. School workdays would be completed by June 2, and the calendar includes transition days for fifth- and sixth-graders starting Aug. 13.

Support staff said the later start date restores roughly one week of summer break compared with previous years and reflected feedback from families and teachers who raised concerns about long stretches without breaks. "That is something both our staff and families like," a staff presenter said when explaining the choice to keep the two-week winter break.

A board member, identified in the transcript only as Nicole, moved to accept the calendar "as presented." The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; the chair called, "All in favor. Aye," and the calendar was recorded as approved in the meeting minutes. The transcript does not record individual vote tallies.

The approved calendar will be finalized and distributed to families and staff as the board and staff polish remaining details.
