Council advances ordinance to align enforcement across property-maintenance chapters

City staff introduced Ordinance 2021‑02 on May 3 as a housekeeping and alignment measure to make enforcement of several property-maintenance chapters consistent, the council was told.

The solicitor explained that the city currently maintains three separate enforcement regimes—one for garbage and refuse, one for junked and abandoned vehicles, and one for brush, grass and weeds—and that the proposed ordinance would amend the garbage and vehicles chapters to match the enforcement provisions found in chapter 194 (brush, grass and weeds).

“This ordinance will be available on our website tomorrow, and it will also be available at the front door for anyone who wants to review it in advance of it being considered for council's potential adoption at the next meeting on May 17,” the solicitor said.

Council members moved, seconded and voted to advance the ordinance; the meeting record shows the motion passed with all members present voting yes. Staff said the solicitor authored the most recent chapter and will make the consolidated enforcement language available for public review ahead of the next meeting.

The ordinance as presented does not have a recorded amendment in the meeting record; staff said it will be posted for public inspection and returned to council for consideration on May 17.
