Parlier ' The Parlier City Council voted to approve a design for a 20-by-40-foot addition to the Parlier Police Department that will add a reception area, property room, a small restroom and a family/children'friendly waiting area.
Arthur Dyson, architect and senior principal with Dyson Jansen Architects, said the project focuses on materials selected for longevity in Parlier's dry climate: "The new building that we are doing is a 20 foot by 40 foot addition," Dyson said, adding the design uses steel siding, stainless-steel fascias and cement plaster so the exterior will remain low-maintenance for decades.
The two concept options shown to council differed primarily in canopy and roof form; Dyson described one as a rectangular overhang and the other as a triangular projection. After reviewing the options and hearing the chief's preference, a motion to approve Version 1 passed on a roll-call vote.
City staff and the architect told the council they had already conducted a job walk and received roofing bids and emphasized urgency to award work before grant funds lapse. "We did have a job walk because we want to make sure that you start using the funds so that they are not pulled back from you," Dyson said.
Council members praised the modernization and the choice of durable materials, and the vote allows staff to proceed to the next design and bidding steps. Council also instructed staff to coordinate interior elevations and confirm scope that can be covered by current grant funds.
The council did not identify any immediate fiscal impact beyond the grant funding already discussed. Staff said they would return with contract documents and any additional budget clarifications required for the construction phase.
The council's selection clears the administrative step for staff to proceed with procurement and to finalize interior drawings.
