Parlier City Council on Feb. 13 approved a resolution authorizing the city to apply for funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation and adopted a separate resolution accepting a $5,000,000 housing award.
The council voted to allow the city manager or the manager’s designee to execute grant agreements and any amendments necessary to receive U.S. Department of Transportation funds; a council member said, “It has to be submitted by the end of this month,” prompting a motion to approve. The motion was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
Council also approved a previously presented housing resolution authorizing acceptance of an award totaling $5,000,000, described by staff as $2,000,000 for rehabilitation work, $2,000,000 for down-payment assistance and $1,000,000 for accessory dwelling units. A motion to adopt the resolution passed without recorded opposition.
Why it matters: the DOT authorization lets city staff pursue federal transportation funding that may support local infrastructure or mobility projects; the housing award commits significant new resources for home rehabilitation and affordability programs. Both votes set staff to work on executing agreements and following state and federal grant requirements.
What happens next: staff will finalize and sign any required grant agreements, return to council if contracts or budget amendments are necessary, and begin implementing the housing programs described in the resolution. The council recorded the votes as carrying unanimously on both items.
