Parlier approves resolution to pursue state parks funds for sports park

Parlier City Council voted Feb. 1 to reauthorize the submittal of a funding application to the State Department of Parks and Recreation for sports-park projects previously earmarked via Senator Anna Caballero. Assistant City Manager Andy presented the item and said the resolution enables the state to begin contract processing; the award will operate on a reimbursement basis.

Andy told council that the indoor sports-park shell materials alone may cost about $700,000 and the total building is likely in the $5 million range; current funding includes roughly $1 million already identified and possible federal COVID-era funds that could be used for matching. Council approved the resolution and authorized the acting city manager to sign related documents so staff can move the process forward.

No additional appropriations were authorized at the meeting; staff will pursue final contracts and report back to council on matching obligations and timeline.
