The Pickens County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 4 to buy the box modules for two new ambulances and two powered stretcher lifts.
Chair (unnamed) told the board the vendor quote for the two ambulance module builds totaled $473,492 after a $20,000 discount and said the lead time for the box itself is 12–14 months. "That would be the whole. That's the total of everything," the chair said while reviewing the vendor quote. The board moved and the motion passed by voice vote.
On stretchers, the chair presented a separate quote from Stryker Medical for two Power‑Lift stretchers, with the quote total for the two units listed as $55,729.60. "That gives us the power which reduces the risk of injury to the metrics that loads the patient," the chair said when explaining the safety value of powered lifts. The board moved, seconded and approved the stretcher purchase.
The purchases were described as urgent because of recurring issues with older ambulances; the chair said chassis for the two ambulances had already been approved at a prior meeting and the current decisions cover the module and equipment builds but not the chassis. Staff indicated the module builds' 12–14 month lead time begins from order placement.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contracting and scheduling for build and equipment installation; no additional funding sources or financing terms were specified at the meeting.
