The Pickens County Board of Commissioners authorized a memorandum of understanding to allow Pickens Urgent Care to offer on‑site telemedicine services to students, school staff and county employees.
The chair (name not stated) described the program as a mobile nurse/telemedicine visit capable of testing for COVID, influenza and strep, administering shots and connecting patients to a doctor by video. "It is an urgent care visit, so there's a co pay... but they would physically come to you," the chair said when outlining the service.
County staff said the school system already uses the program for students and staff, and the urgent care is proposing to expand access to county employees. The arrangement requires a memorandum of understanding between the county and the provider and the vendor's coverage arrangements with the school system.
The board moved, seconded and approved authorization for the county to enter the telemedicine agreement and MOU, with a motion recorded and the vote taken on the floor.
The county did not detail the co‑pay amount, enrollment process for employees, or any data‑privacy provisions during the meeting; staff follow‑up was suggested for outstanding administrative details.
