Officials from Saint Mary’s Home updated the North Providence Town Council on March 1 about steps taken since the last meeting to improve oversight, safety and resident care and said they welcome further public discussion.
A representative identified in the record as “Doctor Charles” said Saint Mary’s has added a compliance officer and a medical director, is searching for a residential director with clinical experience, and has submitted a response to the Office of the Child Advocate (OCA). The presenter described partnerships with the Parent Support Network and Tri-County to provide on-site counseling and said the facility is emphasizing trauma-informed care and transitional planning to shorten lengths of stay where appropriate.
Council members pressed for continued transparency and suggested a community forum to discuss the facility’s future rather than re-litigate past incidents. Doctor Charles and the council agreed to work through the clerk to set a tentative date in April for a public meeting and to provide the community an opportunity to review Saint Mary’s response to the OCA report.
No formal council vote was recorded on licensing or regulatory changes during the update; council members said they will work with Saint Mary’s and the clerk’s office to organize the forum and follow up on outstanding questions from neighbors.
