The West Bend City Park and Recreation Commission voted April 25 to advance renovation plans for the Jim Nan White family cabin at Bridal Run Park to the public bid phase. Rick (Speaker 7), who presented the proposal, said an anonymous donor has provided $5,000 toward preliminary costs and that the full project budget is about $124,500.
"Yes, tonight we're requesting commission approval to proceed with the planned improvements at the Ridg Run Cabin known as the Jim Nan White family cabin," Rick said, listing interior work such as paneling, ceiling, flooring, new windows and doors, electrical upgrades, lighting and a storage closet, as well as exterior repairs and an accessible wood deck. He added that the fireplace has structural deficiencies that require repair and that the project includes a gas insert to improve heating.
The base bid was described as roughly $112,000, with a bid alternate of about $11,000 to add a kitchenette with sink and cabinets intended to improve rental use. Rick said staff hopes to issue bid documents in May and, pending award, begin construction in mid– to late September for a roughly 60-day build period.
Commissioners asked about financing for the remainder of the budget; Rick said the donor has agreed to fund the project upon commission approval to move to bidding. Chair (Speaker 1) moved to proceed and the motion carried by voice vote.
The commission did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript. The project will move to the city procurement process for bidding and award.
