Council OKs conditional use permit and variance for church sign recommended by planning commission

The Isanti City Council unanimously approved a conditional use permit and a variance to allow St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church to replace its existing sign with a dynamic sign at the corner of Heritage Boulevard and Whiskey Road.

A presenter explained the church property is zoned R-1 single-family residential, which requires a conditional use permit for a dynamic sign in any zoning district and a variance for the requested sign size. The Planning Commission reviewed the application at its Sept. 17 meeting and recommended approval; the findings of fact and conclusions were included in the council packet.

Councilman Lundin moved to approve the conditional use permit and variance; Councilman Merrill seconded. The motion carried 5-0.

Staff will process the permit and any required zoning documentation following standard procedures.
