The Isanti City Council voted 5-0 to launch a public naming contest for the park currently referred to as Fairway Greens North Park.
Parks staff said the park was dedicated from the Fairway Greens North development and does not yet have an official name. The city’s naming policy guides choices toward natural features or location-based names and includes a process for public input. Councilmembers proposed using a combination of online entry collection (via a form linked from Facebook) and targeted outreach to local schools, with teachers or classes possibly submitting entries and a subsequent finalist poll or selection by council staff.
Councilman Lundin moved to create the contest and Councilman Merrill seconded. The motion carried unanimously. Staff will prepare outreach materials and a submission form and return details on timeline and selection process as required by city policy.
Council discussed prize recognition (e.g., gift certificate), possible student involvement (ribbon-cutting participation), and technical steps to ensure fair selection from open submissions.
