Lake County Schools board reviews five-year strategic plan, to place plan on April 10 agenda

The Lake County Schools board reviewed a draft five-year strategic plan and agreed to place a cleaned-up version on the agenda for a formal vote on April 10. Board member (Speaker 1) introduced the document as "a 5 year plan, 01/2030," calling it a tool for accountability and continuous improvement.

Board members pressed staff on how the plan will measure progress across classrooms and schools where teachers start at different times. Speaker 3 proposed adding a target that "by the end of school year 2026, '80 percent of the teachers will have met" certain benchmarks; Speaker 1 responded that an across-the-board target could be "disingenuous" given staggered hiring and varying readiness among professional learning communities.

Several members flagged formatting issues in the packet and asked for a clearer action plan and regular reporting cadence. Speaker 4 said pages were missing or misprinted and recommended scheduled updates so the board can "see where we are in each strategy."
