Committee approves bill to standardize how counties tax self‑storage property

Senator Ricky Hill (District 11) presented HB1475 to the Senate Revenue & Tax Committee as a measure to standardize how county assessors treat self‑storage personal property and to improve transparency for taxpayers.

Hill said current practice varies by assessor; the bill would require a uniform approach across the state so taxpayers can see how assessors arrive at figures. Joe Doherty of the Self Storage Association answered committee questions and said he was present to respond to questions rather than to deliver extended testimony.

A motion to pass HB1475 was made and seconded; the committee approved the bill by voice vote. Senator Hill and Mr. Doherty both noted the bill is intended to reduce inconsistent assessor practices and to give taxpayers clearer information about valuations.
