Senate committee expunges earlier vote on House Bill 1468

The Senate Insurance & Commerce Committee voted to expunge its earlier committee vote on House Bill 1468 after the bill’s sponsor removed it from this committee and it was heard and passed in Revenue & Tax and later on the Senate floor, where it awaits the governor’s signature.

Chairman Pitch said the bill had been referred to this committee “erroneously” and that Representative Blake Johnson had pulled the bill from the panel. The chair asked for a motion “on house bill 1468 to expunge the vote.” The motion was moved and seconded, and following brief discussion — during which Senator Teague asked what would happen if they did not expunge and stated he would vote no — the chair called for the voice vote. Committee members responded “Aye,” and the chair declared, “The motion carries.”

The action was procedural: the committee removed its prior committee-level vote from the record because the bill was processed in the appropriate committee and then on the Senate floor. No further action on the substance of the bill occurred in this committee.
