Ricky Hill, chairman of the Senate Insurance & Commerce Committee, opened the committee’s organizational meeting and the panel adopted its committee rules by voice vote. Members approved agenda and quorum procedures that call for agendas to be prepared two days before meetings and require five members to constitute a quorum.
The committee, chaired by Hill, heard a motion to adopt the rules and recorded a second (a second was announced as by 'Senator Urban'); the chair then called for the voice vote and the rules were adopted. The chair also instructed members to leave agenda folders in the room and said sponsor notices will be sent by email two days before meetings.
Members present introduced themselves. Several senators gave brief district descriptions and prior committee service, including Senator Missy Irvin (District 24), Justin Boyd (Senate District 27), Clint Penzo (District 31), Mark Johnson (Senate District 17) and Reginald Murdock (District 9). Staff and counsel were introduced and noted (Michelle, Sheila and Alex Stevens—Alex was not present).
The committee closed its housekeeping items after the vote and moved on to the next agenda item.
The committee adjourned after brief industry introductions and no further business was raised.
