Committee advances HB1042 to align state prostate‑cancer screening with national guidelines

Senator Dave Wallace, presenting the bill, told the committee the change "enhances the prostate cancer screening" statute to meet current NCCN guidance and that there is no anticipated physical or fiscal impact. Members asked whether the update would create any reimbursement or Medicaid duties; Wallace said he was not aware of any costs and would confirm if any Medicaid ramifications exist.

Senator Johnson noted Representative Allen — a sponsor with a personal history of prostate cancer — and supported the bill while asking about the bill's prospective language that allows the commissioner to add new clinical recommendations by rule. Wallace said the change provides flexibility to adopt improved screening methods over time.

The committee voted 'do pass' and the chair announced that HB1042 "has passed." The bill will proceed to the next legislative stage.
