Bill to let residential electricians wire triplexes and fourplexes pulled for amendment after wording questions

Representative Richard McGrew presented HB1360, saying the measure clarifies the residential wiring license classification so licensed residential electricians may wire triplexes and fourplexes. McGrew described it as correcting a drafting inconsistency and said inspectors and the licensing board reviewed the concept.

"To me, it's something that we've already been doing. It just clarifies a mistake that's in there to make it clear," McGrew told the committee.

Committee members asked whether the statute's use of the word "exclusively" could unintentionally bar quiet home-based businesses or allow local inspectors to enforce differently across jurisdictions. Several senators suggested changing the word to "primarily" or otherwise clarifying that the bill applies to new residential construction and residential wiring standards rather than later-converted business uses.

Representative McGrew agreed to pull the bill and make the proposed language changes and asked to return with an amendment. The committee formally pulled HB1360 for amendment; no vote on passage occurred.
