Crimes Against Children Division reports hotline volume and case-processing figures; substantiation rate 37% for the quarter

Major Drew, division commander for the Crimes Against Children Division, presented the quarterly quality report for July through September. He said the hotline received 15,588 calls during the quarter with 8,594 calls accepted for follow-up. Of the accepted calls, the Crimes Against Children Division handled 1,611 while DCFS handled 5,707; 1,276 calls were routed to differential response as reported.

Drew said 15,557 cases were opened and 13,94 closed during the reporting period; of those closed, 517 were found to be true, yielding a quarter substantiation rate reported at 37%. The report also included prosecution-program metrics: 590 cases were submitted to prosecutors, 263 were filed, 222 remained pending and 105 were declined. The report provides county-level referral breakdowns and mandated-reporter summaries in appendices, and Drew said additional detail can be provided on request.

What happens next: committee members asked for more comparative data against prior quarters and a more granular breakdown of how mandated-reporter calls are routed between agencies; Drew said he will provide additional reports as requested.
