Superintendent Doctor Wright used his April 8 report to highlight community and school events, including the district’s 20th annual Celebration of the Arts and a substantial snack donation from the American Legion.
Wright said the Celebration of the Arts will be at McHenry Middle School on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and described displays and performances from multiple schools. "We're gonna have art displays from all of our talented artists from all of our schools," a foundation representative said, adding that musical acts from MMS, Parkland, Riverwood, Juker and Landmark will perform. The event will include 17 silent-auction items, a raffle with a $500 grand prize, food trucks and a registration table; proceeds go to the d15 foundation to support teacher mini-grants, student needs and two annual scholarships.
Wright also thanked the American Legion and Susan Hansen for donating snacks to address student hunger. He said the Legion originally donated about 4,000 healthy snacks and recently dropped off another 6,000, "so almost almost 10,000 total snacks that they've donated to d15," which are being distributed to schools.
The superintendent announced a districtwide kindergarten kickoff on April 15 at 5:30 p.m. for schools with kindergarten classes, and an open house for Landmark students returning to their home school on April 29 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. He also reported that IAR testing is underway and praised student performance in his remarks.
The announcements are informational; no board votes were required. The next board meeting is scheduled for April 22 and will be an instructional meeting.
