HDC approves new secondary entrance, railing and repaint at 145 Monument Street

The Town of Concord Historic Districts Commission voted to approve alterations at 145 Monument Street that create a secondary entrance and refresh the house’s exterior.

Owner David Brown told the commission he plans to convert space within the existing footprint to an in‑law apartment and to add a secondary access on the Lang Street side by replacing a porch window with a door and sidelights that duplicate the existing right-hand door. Brown also proposed adding a railing to match the existing one and repainting the clapboard portion of the house Benjamin Moore historic white with black shutters and doors.

Commissioners asked about materials and confirmed that the work would not increase the house’s footprint. Chair Tim Whitney said the submission was thorough; there were no public comments. Commissioner Walter Clay moved to approve the application as submitted and the motion passed unanimously on roll call.

The approval covers the door and sidelights, the matched railing, and the repainting as shown in the submitted photographs and color choices.
