Giles County board adopts policy updates, adds Juneteenth holiday and approves routine contracts

The board approved a set of policy changes and routine business items. On first reading, Policy 5.31.0 (vacations and holidays) was amended to add Juneteenth to the district calendar for 12-month employees; the board approved that change on motion. The district deferred Policy 6.3.0 (code of conduct) to the June 22 work session for further review after receiving recommendations from the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA).

The board approved Policy 5.602 (staff time schedules), adopted model language and deleted duplicate Policy 5.604. Policy 6.4031 was approved on second and final reading, replacing an older model per TSBA guidance.

On routine agenda items the board approved disposition of textbooks from Richland High School (items reported to have an original purchase value in excess of $500), approved a RJ Young copier lease for Pulaski Elementary, and approved several grant-related contract and purchase items previously discussed. These motions were approved by voice votes. The board also tabled one personnel-related item until test scores are available in September or October so more teachers could qualify for tenure.
