Central SD 13J awarded $710,000 under House Bill 482 to expand summer programming

Central School District 13J staff told the board they were awarded the full amount of funds available under House Bill 482 and will use the grant to expand summer programming.

Speaker Ashley explained that the district submitted an application after being identified as eligible and learned during the prior week that it would receive the full award: "we are receiving the full amount of of funds, which is $710,000." The grant requires 80 hours of highly programmed academic and enrichment activities and includes assessment requirements (pre/post measures) to evaluate impact.

Staff said the district’s target is to serve 485 students — roughly four times their typical summer-program enrollment — and that they will partner with local organizations, including libraries, the YMCA, OSU Extension, tribal-history groups and other consortium partners for enrichment activities and field trips. The district emphasized the grant is targeted to historically marginalized students and that school sites will identify priority elementary students with academic or social-emotional needs.

District leaders said summer programming will blend academic instruction with enrichment and family-engagement activities and that some secondary staff will be engaged to support the expansion. The board celebrated the award and indicated staff will proceed with implementation planning and partner coordination.
