Ontario SD 8C board plans to host OSBA regional meeting Nov. 6–8; members asked for training topics

The Ontario School District (Ontario SD 8C) board discussed hosting the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) regional meeting on Nov. 6–8 and asked members to submit agenda and training suggestions.

Board members said President-elect Chris Kronen wants input on whether to continue the regional format and what topics would draw attendance from nearby districts. Andrea confirmed the proposed dates as November 6 through November 8. An unnamed board member said, “Each board member needs to have at least 2 items,” and the board directed members to email suggested topics to the organizer the next day.

Speakers discussed repeating past practice of having OSBA present trainings adjacent to the regional meeting so attendees can receive both training and regional updates. One board member described recently enacted state legislation that adds a requirement for boards to complete specified trainings; the speaker said the state has not yet defined the detailed content or approved trainers. As a result, the board discussed preparing a short menu of training options that could be adjusted if the state issues uniform requirements.

Members agreed to reach out to neighboring districts (discussed by name in the meeting) to solicit topics that would encourage attendance, and one speaker offered to compile a list of options and hold meetings to narrow them. Logistics such as whether trainings would occur the day before or after the meeting and travel arrangements for presenters were also discussed.

Next steps: board members were asked to submit at least two suggested topics each and the organizer will be emailed to confirm details. The board did not take a formal vote on hosting during this meeting; the decision process and any formal approvals remain procedural follow-ups.
