After the public hearing portion of the agenda the RSU 51/MSAD 51 school board moved to governance and personnel business.
The board unanimously approved an updated policy IHCD to reflect the district's commitment to the International Baccalaureate Program and approved policy BDF, which clarifies the scope and formation of non‑standing board committees and special task forces (including the anticipated building committee). Both policies passed on motions recorded in the meeting minutes.
Personnel approvals
The board approved four professional appointments by unanimous vote: a full‑time social worker for Mabel I. Wilson School (replacement), a 6–8 English language arts teacher at the middle school (replacement for a retiring teacher), a K–1 literacy specialist at Mabel I. Wilson (replacement), and an MTSS coordinator at MIW (new position added in the budget). For each position the superintendent and hiring committees described the applicant pools and interview processes (for example, the ELA position drew 33 applications with multiple interview rounds). The board chair called each motion and the motions were seconded and recorded as unanimous.
Process notes and next steps
The superintendent noted the district will continue to update the public on staffing and budget details, and the human resources office will finalize appointment paperwork and onboarding. The board also closed its meeting with committee reports and routine communications before adjourning by unanimous vote.
